OVERLAND TRIP THROUGH SOUTHERN AFRICA
In 2019, my wife and I left the safety of our corporate jobs to embark on a seven month overland tour through Southern Africa. Our journey started in Cape Town and traveled through Namibia, Zambia and Malawi before we turned around and traveled back south through Botswana to South Africa.
We drove over 25 000km, visited some of Africa’s most pristine wildlife reserves and camped at more than 60 campsites.

ABOUT JUBA
My name is Joubert Tulleken, but you can call me Juba.
I am passionate about the natural world, wildlife, camping, overland expeditions and outdoor travel. Photography and videography have been my passion for the last 15 years. I love creating visual stories that evoke emotions through my films and photos.
I believe, we as humans have become disconnected from our natural origins. Our declining wildlife and the destruction of natural habitats are a great concern to me. That’s why I have made it my mission to get as many people as possible out into nature and have them experience a world they might have forgotten.
I believe that the more time we spend in nature, our connection with it will grow stronger. This connectedness with nature, will motivate a change in human habits to demonstrate a more concious behaviour about what we consume and our impact on the natural environment.
I am a Civil Engineer by profession, but my passion has driven me to make an outdoor creative lifestyle my full-time commitment. I am also a cancer survivor and this drives me to make the most out of life and every day. My default mode is being positive.
I hope that my photography and videography will inspire others to get outside and experience nature.

TRUE OVERLANDING COMPANION
THE STORY OF MKULU THE LANDY
Mkulu is a true overlanding Land Rover Defender, the vehicle has seen more places than what most people will ever see in their lifetime.
Mkulu first belonged to the wonderful owners, Hans and Elisme Swart and they took Mkulu to almost every country in Africa.
Mkulu is a 2008 2.4 Puma Defender 110 and has been very well looked after considering all the places and tough terrains he has had to endure in his lifetime.
My wife Jackie and I are the second owners of Mkulu, and have been driving the vehicle across Southern Africa for the past 3 years. Mkulu has been converted into a Defender Camper which is fully kitted for overlanding and off-road expeditions. Mkulu is our house on wheels.
Mkulu can carry 150 liters of diesel and 70 liters of water. It is kitted with 3 gas plates, a sink, double bed, 52 liter fridge/freezer, plenty of space for food and clothes, double spare wheel carrier and a solar powered dual battery system to power all accessories.
